Location

One of the rare 3-star hotels in Venice overlooking the Grand Canal, the Hotel Antica Locanda Sturion is in the heart of Venice: at Rialto, within view of the famous bridge and just minutes from all the city's most beautiful and celebrated sites.

On foot or by ferry which stops 2 minutes from the hotel (San Silvestro or Rialto stops), St. Mark's Square, the Gallerie dell'Accademia, the Corderie and the Biennale gardens are all just a short ferry ride or pleasant stroll from the hotel Antica Locanda Sturion.

The maze of "calli" and "campielli" surrounding the hotel is a bustling series of delightful typical Venetian carnival mask, souvenir, clothing and jewelry shops dotted with forni (bakeries), bacari (local taverns) and pastry shops with appetizing window displays of golosessi (sweets), winding towards the Rialto bridge.

The colorful stands in the fruit and vegetable Market (ancient Herbaria) at the foot of the bridge display sophisticated compositions of every type of delicacy, from exotic to local treats from Sant'Erasmo, the prestigious Venetian vegetable garden that grows delicious artichokes and vegetables.

San Giacometo, the oldest church in Venice with its delicate Gothic style, stands out on your left, just before crossing the bridge. It was the merchant's bridge whose external apse bears the inscription from the 1200's (still clearly legible for those who know Latin) appealing to their honesty and loyalty.

Wander across the Rialto bridge through the rows of stands, stopping at the center for the customary picture with Grand Canal and hotel Antica Locanda Sturion in the background, to head towards St. Mark's Square on the other side.

Along the Mercerie, the former trade "calli" and now modern-day shopping temple, stores and shops have made room for Made in Italy and international franchises and fashion boutiques: Rolex, Gucci, Tod's, Cartier, Scervino, Dolce & Gabbana and many, many more.

The Mercerie emerge in what Napoleon described as the "world's most beautiful parlour", St. Mark's Square, enchantingly beautiful. The Square is the historic and artistic heart of Venice (just a 10 minute walk from the hotel Antica Locanda Sturion): St. Mark's Basilica, the Doge Palace, the Marciana library, the Correr museum and the Procuratie with its acclaimed cafes are the highest expression of Venetian art and culture as well as one of the world's rarest sites of beauty and charm.
