It is celebrated the end pf plague of 1577, when the Doge exhorted the Venetians to pray for the end of pestilence and ordered the construction of a temple didacted to the Redeemer when the plague was over.

From that day every year a votive bridge is built between Venice and Giudecca Island (where the Church was built) to Thank the Redeemer for the end of pestilence.

Today, the celebrations start on Saturday with the beautiful fireworks on the water between Saint Mark and the Giudecca.
